President: Gabriella Heruc
Gabbi is an Accredited Practising Dietitian, with a background in psychology. She has worked in mental health for almost 20 years and specialises in the nutritional management of eating disorders in private practice as well as at the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network Eating Disorders Intensive Program for Adolescents (EDIPA). She also has a passion for research and is currently completing her PhD at The University of Adelaide, Discipline of Medicine examining gastrointestinal function and appetite regulation in anorexia nervosa.
Gabbi has a strong interest in improving education and professional development opportunities for health professionals working in the eating disorders field, and has previously lectured dietetic and exercise physiology students on mental health and eating disorders at The University of South Australia. She represented South Australia on the former Professional Development in Eating Disorders Committee Australia & New Zealand, and was on the steering committee for the development of the SA Statewide Eating Disorders Services. She is also a member of the Academy for Eating Disorders.
Gabbi is a past convenor of the Dietitian’s Association of Australia (DAA) Eating Disorders Interest Group, and she coordinated the development of DAA’s role statement for eating disorder dietitians, as well as their guidelines for receiving clinical supervision and mentoring in the eating disorders field. During her last 6 years on the ANZAED Executive, she convened the 2012 Adelaide Conference, established the now annual Autumn Workshop Series, has held roles as Treasurer and President-Elect, and through chairing the Professional Development: Strategy, Advocacy and Partnerships Committee, helped to set up the ANZAED Training Reference Group, allowing for communication and collaboration between the organisations and regions of NZ and Australia that provide professional development to the eating disorders field.
